Today sometime after 2 PM I picked up Sister Brenda after her Pathways Meeting {see her picture above}. We had made a plan to go see our Brother Manny at the UCD Medical Center where he is in an Intensive Care Unit. A few weeks ago Brother Manny was hit by a car while riding his bike by the Salvation Army. So Brenda and I went to go see him.

On the way I saw Brother Julius, he use to be my recovery brother, by the 39th Street Light Rail. He stated that he had gone out and did some more 'field research', a term people in recovery have for 'going out' and getting back into their dope addiction. It was good to see him straight and he said he would make it to the CASA Meeting this Sunday.

Afterwards, Sister Brenda and I got the UCD Shuttle Van to the Med Center to go see Manny.
Brother Manny is in ICU-2 {Intensive Care Unit} and still under heavy meds with a broken back and suffering from his serious injury. WE prayed over him to our Creator in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I need to go see him more often.

Brenda said she felt him try to squeeze her hand and believes he was aware that she was there. He did seem excited some by our presence, his eyes got bigger and his breathing got a little heavier. I just hope he gradually heals as time goes by, though, I am sure he will need a Care Worker when he gets out of the hospital.

I regret that despite all the people who know Manny, especially those around Loaves & Fishes, that it seems like no one has really gone to go see him. I want to make it a point to go by and check on him from time to time when I am in the area. WE need to continue to pray for him and for all of our peo-le who suffer from ailments, diseases and other physical disorders.

Sometimes when you are really down and out you find out who your real friends are in life. As strange or as natural as it seems, most of my best friends these days are into recovery and ones that I have met at the local Salvation Army Homeless Shelter.

After our visit, Brenda and I went our different ways. She to a recovery meeting and I to a Steering Committee Meeting for the Oasis Project, which is being formulated by the County and La Familia Counseling Center. I checked it out for awhile. Hardly anyone from the 'public' was there, only a couple of people, but it is a worthy cause and we will see what we will see.

I plan to go see Sister Sharon L. at the Ambrosia Coffee Shop tomorrow. I want to help some people as I can in my own way with their continued recovery. I am no expert, but I have learned a few things over the years that I know can help others. Plus, she is a sweet sister, I like her spirit and I want to encourage her in her progress. Plus, the coffee there is good.

Tomorrow is a brand new day! ~Peta
