Who I Am: By Peter S. Lopez

Who I Am:

I am a fifty-five year old humane being who has engaged himself in a humane development program to have care, concern and compassion for all innocent human beings upon Mother Earth. Being humane does not just come automatically in a sick inhumane world and out of its selfish individualistic culture. One needs to make a conscious effort at being truly humane as does not always come easy in an inhumane society.

I was born on a stormy night on November 15, 1951 in Sacramento, California many moons ago. Society has changed dramatically since those days, especially in the arena of technology. I remember ‘back in the day’ when we only had black-and-white TV with three channels, only AM – FM radio stations and no one had ever heard of a computer, CDs or DVDs!

Man has made great strides and advancements in technology, but he has failed miserably to grow, develop and mature as a species of life in spiritual realms.

Hunger FactsEvery day in the developing world, 30,100 children die from mostly preventable and treatable causes such as diarrhea, acute respiratory infections or malaria. Malnutrition is associated with over half of those deaths. In the last 50 years, almost 400 million people worldwide have died from hunger and poor sanitation… three times the number of people killed in all wars fought in the entire 20th century.Source: http://www.starvation.net/

I am one humane being among many who dares to make a real difference in the world for me, for my generation and for generations to follow. Primarily, I do this by setting a personal example of being truly humane in the way I conduct myself in all my relations, my communications and my personal interactions in society.

I am now employed as a Counselor and Case Worker at the Salvation Army ‘Center of Hope’ homeless shelter near Downtown Sacramento; am Field Coordinator for the Humane Liberation Party and for Christians Against Substance Addiction (a Christian recovery group based upon the original A.A. 12-Steps program). Plus, I am the Moderator for several progressive online groups, including the Humane-Rights-Agenda Yahoo Group and Aztlannet-News Yahoo Group.

Besides superficial titles, I strive to be ‘for real’ as a humane being and am not completely defined by any racial, ethnic or tribal labels. Thus, I am first and foremost a humane being of Chicano indigenous heritage!

Humanely Yours ~
