This afternoon I had a Meeting with our Shelter Director Elizabeth Hudson and she explained to me the process of how things work within the context of the Salvation Army. She sees it as a military-type structure, though, I see it in connected reality as a quasi-military hierarchical organizational.
She made it clear that the Salvation Army does not get involved with politics and does not do political advocacy. She gave me a chart of the Salvation Army and described the different levels of organizational layers and how things are processed for consideration from the higher levels and transmitted down to the lower levels. Thus, it is a top-down organization.
The fact remains that we do have a responsibility as humane beings to advocate for the poor and oppressed, thus, I will continue to do so as a humane rights advocate and civilian-citizen.
